T&T: Casino robbery suspect nabbed outside court
Police arrested the third suspect in the $100,000 Club Monte Carlo robbery, when he stepped out of San Fernando First Magistrate’s Court after appearing on a pending kidnapping charge.
Alert Mon Repos policemen held the 27-year-old suspect and handcuffed him outside the court in full view of relatives and members of the public.
“What robbery? What are you talking about?” he asked the policemen, as they pulled him along the corridor.
He told his mother, who was standing in shock, to get his attorney Keith Beckles.
As he was taken to the nearby San Fernando CID, his frantic mother held her head and said, “Why they hold my child for? What robbery they talking ‘bout?”
The suspect, a labourer of Freeport, will be placed on an identification parade over the weekend.
Beckles said he would look into the matter.
The robbery the suspect is believed to be a part of took place at around 11 am on June 17 at Monte Carlo Casino, La Romain.
He is believed to have entered the club pretending to be in search of employment when his alleged accomplices entered, robbed the casino of cash and relieved the security officer of his licensed gun.
They later escaped in a waiting car.
Policemen from the Mon Repos station gave chase, and a shoot-out ensued.
No one was injured.
Two of the suspects were held with a Taurus pistol and revolver. The third suspect escaped.
Sgt Williams is continuing investigations.
