Secret casino floats on Belizean waters
Government’s latest secret deal it seems is a floating casino.
Yes, a huge white ship with the name Island Casino marked in blue letters, is anchored in Belizean waters and GOB is not talking.
Fully equipped with a state-of-the-art luxurious casino on board, the vessel was guided in its new port of call by local port pilots on Monday, September 5, 2005.
Reporter took a picture of the ship on Thursday, September 8 and started an investigation.
This newspaper learnt that no one person is responsible for the ship arriving in country. The names being called are: Arnoldo “Pappy” Pena, Luke Espat, who owns the Port and Steve Nembhard, as well as one high rolling government minister our source was reluctant to name.
Reporter has been reliably informed that the vessel has gotten an off shore licence to operate on a trial basis, not for the average Belizeans who flock to the Princess but for the likes of Barry Bowen, ministers and their special friends.
When Reporter Editor Ann-Marie Williams, called the Ministry of Finance to verify the issuing of a off shore licence, we were told only C.E.O. Cresencio Sosa, handles casino licences and he was out of office.
Despite leaving a messages that he could return the call up until press time, around 9:00P.M. our calls were not returned.
Our attempts to find out where the ship is registered were also stalled by the Port as an employee said they’re under strict orders not to give any information about the Island Casino.
Ports Commissioner, Lloyd Jones and his Harbour Master we were told were in meetings which never ended up to press time.
This newspaper did reach Pena on his mobile and he coincidentally experienced bad reception on his end when asked about the floating casino. Pena asked that we call him back in an hour, we did, several times but his telephone rang out.
