Balti: A councillor from Balti proposes the prohibition of gambling houses
The activity on the territory of the „Northern capital” of electronic casinos and the work of gambling machines cause disputes among the members of the Municipal Council of Balti. This happens after the councillor Sergiu Banari (PDS) launched a decision project regarding the prohibition of electronic game machines at the sitting at the end of the last week, DECA-press transmits.
„Now Balti risks to change into a Moldovan Las Vegas, because many electronic casinos and other places where game machines work appeared in a very short period of time. Some casinos are placed next to schools, and one of them is situated a few metres from the Mayoralty. When you enter these places at any time, you can see that most clients are underaged. They usually spend the money of their parents who are working abroad for their sake”, Sergiu Banari motivated his decision.
In this context, the chief of the Juridical Department of Balti Mayoralty, Tatiana Curteanu, replied that the local authorities responsible for the prohibition of this kind of activity have the right to decide upon their working program and the location of such games. As an alternative, the PPCD councillor, Igor Ciuru, proposed to replace the term of „prohibition” with the term „limitation” of the games on the territory of Balti. Thus, a working rules of such institutions will be adopted referring to the time and place of their activity.
At the same time, the opposition councillors proposed that the authorizations for the organization of gamblings be not emitted by the mayor. They must be issued on the basis of the decision of the local council.
Despite the fact the communist cuncillors, who dominate the Municipal Council, agreed with the idea that gamblings cause social problems in Balti, they voted for the canceling of the discussed project of decision.
